Answers about buying, selling, offers and payments on Parked & Sold.

Buying

How does buying a domain work?

Pay by card at the listed price, or agree a price through an offer. Your payment is held by Parked & Sold, not sent to the seller. The seller then sends you the domain, and once it’s in your registrar account, you confirm on the order page and the seller is paid.

Is my money safe?

Yes. The seller doesn’t receive anything until you confirm the domain arrived. If it never arrives, you get a full refund. Card payments are processed by Stripe; Parked & Sold never sees your card number.

How do I receive the domain?

The seller gives you a transfer code (also called an EPP or auth code), which appears on your order page. Start a transfer at the registrar where you want to keep the domain and paste the code when asked. If you both use the same registrar, the seller may instead move it straight into your account; they’ll say so in their notes.

Transfers between registrars can take up to 5 to 7 days, and most registrars charge for one year of renewal when the transfer completes.

How long do I have to confirm?

Once the seller sends the transfer details, you have 7 days to confirm or report a problem. If you do neither, the payment is released to the seller automatically. If the transfer is taking longer than that, report a problem so the payment stays on hold.

Something went wrong with my transfer. What do I do?

Open the order and choose Something’s wrong. Payment is frozen while we review it with you and the seller, and if the domain can’t be delivered, you’re refunded in full.

Where do the age, expiry and registrar details come from?

From the domain’s public registry record (RDAP, the modern version of WHOIS), checked automatically and refreshed weekly. Sellers can’t edit them. A few extensions don’t publish these details, so some listings show only the length and extension.

Are there any fees for buyers?

Buyers pay a 4% escrow & payment protection fee (minimum $3.00 USD) on top of the price. It covers holding your payment in escrow and a full refund if the domain never arrives. You see the exact amount on the review page before you pay.

What can I pay with, and in what currency?

All major credit and debit cards, through Stripe. Every price on Parked & Sold is a flat amount in US dollars.

What are the hosting and marketing options at checkout?

Optional extras from partners we trust. Tick what you need and, after you pay, your order page and confirmation email include links to get started. Nothing is added to your total. These are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you sign up, at no cost to you.

Offers and negotiating

How do offers work?

On any listing that accepts offers, choose Make an offer, enter an amount and, if you like, a message to the seller. The seller can accept, decline or counter, and you can do the same with their counter. Each reply is emailed to the other side and shown on the offer page.

How long does each side have to reply?

An offer or counter-offer that isn’t answered within 7 days expires.

What happens when a price is agreed?

The domain is held for the buyer for 48 hours, so nobody else can buy it. The buyer pays the agreed price from the offer page. If they don’t pay in time, the deal lapses and the domain goes back on sale.

Why can’t I make an offer on a domain?

The seller may have turned offers off, set a minimum offer, or your amount is at or above the asking price, in which case you can simply buy it. You also can’t make offers while another buyer has the domain on hold.

Selling

How do I list a domain?

Create an account, set up payouts, then choose Sell a domain. Enter the domain, your price (at least $10.00 USD) and an optional description. You’ll then add one DNS record to prove you own it, and the listing goes live as soon as we can see that record.

Why do I have to add a DNS record?

It proves you control the domain, so buyers know every listing is real. Only the domain’s owner can change its DNS. You can delete the record once the listing is live.

What does it cost to sell?

Listing is free. When a domain sells, Parked & Sold keeps 10% of the sale price and you receive the rest.

When do I get paid?

As soon as the buyer confirms the domain arrived, or 7 days after you send the transfer details if the buyer hasn’t reported a problem. The money goes to your Stripe account, which pays out to your bank on its usual schedule, typically within a few business days.

How do I transfer a domain I’ve sold?

At your registrar, unlock the domain and request its transfer (EPP/auth) code. Then open the order on Parked & Sold and enter the code. If the buyer uses the same registrar, you can push the domain to their account instead and describe that in the notes.

Many registrars won’t release a domain for 60 days after it was registered or last transferred, so check that before you list.

Which countries can sellers be in?

Payouts are available in 33 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and most of Europe. You’ll see the full list when you set up payouts.

Can I change or remove my listing?

Yes. From your dashboard, choose Edit to change the description, price or offer settings, or Remove to take it off sale. While a sale is in progress, only the description can be changed.

What is a parked page?

A simple page showing your domain is for sale, with your price and buttons to buy or make an offer. Point your domain at it with URL forwarding at your registrar, and anyone who types the domain into their browser lands there. Setup steps are on each listing’s Edit page.
